A resolution commending and congratulating the University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi was unanimously approved during the 3rd Session of the 16th Sangguniang Panlungsod of Legazpi City last August 2, 2022.

This is after UST-Legazpi was awarded as one of the 16  Outstanding Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for the COVID-19 Vaccination Program. The said recognition was given by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) last July 19, 202, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

It can be remembered that UST-Legazpi is the sole recipient of the award in the Bicol Region with a very high vaccination rate of 95% of the total number of HEI faculty and more than 70% of the total number of tertiary students vaccinated.

The proponent, Councilor Alexander U. Jao, endorsed to the Honorable Body of Legazpi City this exemplary feat of UST-Legazpi as it deserves commendation and recognition for the university’s efforts and significant contribution to the overall success of the vaccination program of the City Government of Legazpi.

Through nominal voting, a unanimous vote of “yes” was made by Councilors Barizo, Beltran, Buban, Casaulla, Gutierrez, Imperial, Jao, Lucila, Valladolid, Santillan, and Teh.

Looking back, UST-Legazpi fostered a strong partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Legazpi through its information campaigns for the said vaccination drive, provided conducive vaccination centers, and constant cooperation with the Department of Health (DOH) and National Task Force for COVID-19 in vaccination, not just for the Legazpi Thomasian Community but also for the general public.
