UST-L RECEIVES 9 OUT OF 10 REMARK AT THE 2022 4Q NSED

Continuing to exercise standards for the safety of all Legazpi Thomasians, the University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi participated again at the 2022 4th Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) as initiated by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) to continue the effort of strengthening everyone’s preparedness in case of an earthquake.

At exactly 9:00 am, an alarm and warning address echoed throughout the university through its Public Address (PA) System indicating the commencement of the drill. Employees and students immediately conducted “Duck, Cover, and Hold” ensuring its correct and standard practice.

Members of the ALERT Team (UST-Legazpi’s Emergency Response Team) immediately swept the area through the conduct of headcount, facilities checking, and other standard safety measures as part of the practice of tasks during an earthquake and/or other types of emergencies.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Legazpi City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) cross-checked areas of the university that participated in the said event to ensure that all participants are properly conducting the procedures of the drill.

During the evaluation, Mr. Silvino B. Balasta, Jr., MRP, MA Philo, Director of the Office of Student Services (OSS) thanked everyone for actively participating in the said activity. He cited how disaster doesn’t have a definite date for it to happen, thus, the university must be ready at all times. 

“We prioritize safety. As an institution that caters services to the students, UST-Legazpi must be ready at all times,” Balasta said. 

 

On the other hand, Senior Fire Officer 1 (SFO1) Alben M. Ordizo from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) commended the university for the utilization of its Public Address (PA) System as a channel of information during the drill. Ordizo also cited how the participants properly executed the conduct of “Duck, Cover, and Hold.”

Meanwhile, Beverly Anne P. Armeña, representative of the Legazpi City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) highly stated that UST-Legazpi has organized the conduct of the drill and even gave pointers on how to sharpen the safety practices of the university. 

In the end, UST-Legazpi was given a 9 out of 10 remark by both BFP and Legazpi CDRRMC.
