UNIVERSITY RESEARCH FESTIVAL KICKS OFF; GOES BEYOND BORDERS, REFRAMES ACADEME-INDUSTRY COLLABORATION

Legazpi Thomasians and their diligently conducted studies were presented to the community as the Office of Research (OR) spearheads this year’s University Research Festival on April 24 – 28, 2023 at UST-Legazpi with the theme of “Research Beyond Borders: Reframing the Academic-Industry Collaboration”.

Prof. Alvin A. Sario, Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE), delivered the opening ceremony speech emphasizing how research is going beyond its borders in the university with efforts on reframing academe-industry collaboration.

“Let us optimize our experience of having a research festival this year to learn, relearn, and unlearn the things we do and open ourselves to a new level of academe-industry collaboration in the natural sciences, social sciences, health sciences, the humanities. and education all for our excellence and effectiveness in a life of truth and love out of gratitude,” he said.

Meanwhile, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the start of the said festivity took place in the morning, which was immediately followed by a poster display competition showcasing the research works of selected high school and tertiary Legazpi Thomasians.

For the High School Category, the study entitled “Paper Making Using Bambusa (Bamboo) and Citrus Maxima Pith (Pomelo Pith) won the top spot; landing in the second spot is the research entitled ” Identifying Quackery: The Level of Recognition of the Selected Junior High School Student”; while the third spot went to the probe entitled “An Analysis of the Consumer Purchase Decision Involvement of Young Professionals”.

For the Tertiary Level, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) bagged the first place; the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE), second place; and the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Fine Arts (CEAFA), third place.

In the afternoon, Dr. Ronnel R. Dioneda Sr., a Marine Biologist and the Director of Bicol University’s Research and Development Management Division and Higher Education Regional Research Center, served as the first lecturer in the field of science and technology.
